This is the building now occupied by Alliance Assurance on the corner of Pall Mall and St James’s Street. It was designed by the Scottish architect Richard Norman Shaw and built between 1881-1883. His most famous building was New Scotland Yard on the Thames embankment which was the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police from 1890 until 1967.
